Portugal is an associate member of European Union and NATO. It lies along the coast of Iberian Peninsula in south Western Europe. It shares border with Spain in the east and north with the Atlantic dominates the coastline in the west and south. The islands of Azores and Madeira are also part of Portuguese history.

Portugal enjoys a temperate maritime climate with hot summers and wet winters, affected by the Atlantic, Continental and Mediterranean influences. Portugal is divided by the Tagus River, which separates the rugged north from the rolling plains in the South. In the north, the landscape covers mountains of Iberian Peninsula forests with deep valleys. The South of Tagus River is characterized by wide plains with planted mostly Mediterranean species including olive trees and vineyards. The central coastline region flourishes with holiday resorts.
